Owner-builders usually become worried about their plans when the construction inspector turns up. I guess they foresee problems (he’s there to find blame, he’s going to ruin the job momentum of growth, that’s going to cost me more money). Most inspectors are skilled , experienced and have themselves spent several years in the building industry. We are there to see to it that the house adheres to construction standards and municipal laws and regulations. The building has to be adequately built for the health of the current and potential occupants. If you are building in earthquake zones, you will have a lot more seismic devices and precautions than someone in stable sandy soil doing a project.
The structures for a beach-made building would be substantially different from those constructed in the mountains on a rugged hillside. Regional construction authorities are informed of the different circumstances and how best to cope with them in their districts. If you look positively at their services, and even ask their advice or opinion once in a while, you will find they can be a valuable asset to complete your project.
Speak to agent. Find out what are their key issues right from the start? It should go a long way to improve the partnership with the inspector and the construction agency they serve. Bear in mind that it’s the on-site contractor who must finally authorize the job completion and register the final report.
So use the building inspector as an owner-builder to help you move things along and anticipate any problems that may be headed off before they happen. NEVER develop an adversarial relationship especially with your inspector! Don’t be an all-know-all. Arguing, insulting or pretending to convince them that you know more about the building industry than they do, can give you a very long list of corrections.
Never hide job that needs inspection. I have seen a variety of people trying to cut drywall or roofing when they were too busy, or failed to plan an inspection. Many regulators may authorize you to continue without a formal examination, depending on the situation, but then you have to speak to them to get verbal consent. Kommunikation is that.
When he or she comes for a planned check it is better for everyone to face the inspector. They might have concerns or you might have your own concerns. Take the accepted package of plans always with you.

Typical job phases which will include an inspection are:
Footings, standard columns, walls and slabs for preservation
Framing and screwing partitions
Roof and concrete slabs
Electrical, electrical, and HVAC rough-ins
Lath of coating, if necessary
Drywall nailing, particularly when it includes shear walls
Full occupancy review
The auditor is not a person to be hated or loathed, but a partner to the success of your actions as a valued participant. Many I see who view the construction inspector as a supportive part of the management department also seen little difficulties or interruptions.
